Use Plot Foundations

Use Plot Foundations in Novelio to shape the core structure of your story before or during drafting.

Plot Foundations is the plotting page for documenting core story structure in one place.

Use it to work across these main sections:

  • The Premise
  • The Arcs
  • Foundational Plot Events
  • Reader Questions & Notes

Use Reader Questions & Notes to note possible friction points your story may need to resolve and the curiosity or anticipation you hope to create in readers. Story Sync can also generate notes for this section. Review them carefully.

Open Plot Foundations

  1. Open your story.
  2. Go to the Plotting area.
  3. Select the Foundations tab.

If you cannot edit the page, your access may be read-only for that story.

What to do on this page

Use Plot Foundations to record the psychological and structural parts of your story, then revise them as your draft develops.

You can use the sections together or return to them one at a time:

  • The Premise for the central conflict, question, and thematic premise
  • The Arcs for external and internal arc direction
  • Foundational Plot Events for beginning, middle, climax, and end turning points
