Not at all. Novelio works for writers at every level, from first-time authors to experienced storytellers managing complex projects.

Novelio is not a word processor; it’s where you build and organize your story. Most writers pair it with tools like Scrivener, Google Docs, Atticus, or Reedsy for drafting and formatting.

No. Novelio complements your writing software. You write your manuscript where you prefer, and use Novelio to organize, track, and develop your story. Novelio is designed from the ground up for storytelling, with built-in systems for characters, worldbuilding, and plot that stay connected as your story grows.

Story Sync is an AI “developmental reader” and data formatter that connects your manuscript with your Novelio story system.

It helps you spot inconsistencies, missing details, and character or arc issues, so your story stays aligned from planning to final draft. It also shows how your characters, arcs, and themes actually appear on the page, so you can see your story the way readers will.

Yes. You can bring your manuscript into Novelio and use Story Sync to extract and outline characters, worldbuilding, and plot.

Yes. Novelio works on desktop and mobile browsers, and can be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA). See the Help Center for details.

A native app with offline mode is currently in development.

Your work is yours. If you need help with account data or account deletion, our support team is happy to assist.

If you cancel a paid subscription, your work stays in your Novelio account. If anything exceeds the free tier’s limits, those items stay available to view until you upgrade again or trim them back under the limit.

Collaboration features are currently in development and will allow writers, editors, and co-authors to work together on shared novels, shared story worlds, joint series, or even sharing specific characters or profiles. Stay tuned for updates as we roll this out.

Your account moves to the free tier when the current paid term ends. Any content that exceeds the free tier’s limits becomes locked until you upgrade or delete enough content to get back under the limit.

You can still view your work and clean up excess items while you’re on the free tier. If you want all account data deleted, just reach out to support.

A limited number of lifetime accounts are available during this phase of Novelio’s growth. Once we reach that limit, the lifetime option will be removed. Lifetime accounts come with a generous, set number of free Story Sync analyses to be used at any time.

Absolutely not. Everything you create in Novelio belongs to you. We never claim ownership of your content. We do not alter your content.

No. Your content is private and is not used to train AI models in any way. We’re writers, too, and this point was one of our requirements in building the Novelio software.

All AI features in Novelio are opt-in and stay within your account only.

Yes. We take data privacy seriously and store your work securely. Your content is never sold, shared, or used outside of your account.

AI image usage is still evolving legally. While you may be able to use generated images (or parts of generated images), they may not be eligible for copyright protection.

We recommend using AI images for inspiration, planning, and some marketing, but please consult an intellectual property attorney for publishing or commercial use.

We believe there is a marked difference between AI that writes stories for you, and AI that analyzes your manuscript to help you better see your own work.

Novelio’s Story Sync is here to help human storytellers know their own stories inside and out. (And organize the details for you!)

We also believe that AI should be opt-in and not used by default. Novelio will never allow AI to see your work without you specifically asking it to.

There are many different models, trained on different material, using different data centers, and operating under different guardrails. We are thoughtful in our research and selection, and continue to stay on top of current models and AI ethics issues.

We are currently comparing options with groups such as OffsetAI.app and ClimeCo.com. If you have a great solution for us to consider, please reach out to us as we formalize our policy.

Yes, please! Your feedback helps us improve Novelio. You can submit bugs or suggestions through Novelio’s support chat, the Bug Submit tool, or by emailing support@novelio.app.

Rarely, right after we push updates to the site and/or app, a page in your story bible might return an error screen. This is because your browser has cached the older version of the app and might take a minute to update to the new version. If the error doesn’t resolve after a minute and a reload or two, please reach out to support.

Those are word processors / book formatters, things that Novelio does not do. We’ve used all three platforms and can vouch for them!

What they don’t offer, however, are robust story building and organizational tools for your creative data, which is exactly what Novelio is for. We support creative magic, while word processors are the tools you use to type that magic into a final, formatted manuscript.

Plottr is for Kanban-style plot outlining, and both Campfire and World Anvil focus on worldbuilding, especially for fantasy, sci-fi, and RPG worlds. They all have different pricing structures, quirks, and purposes.

Novelio explores character development, worldbuilding, and plotting as a whole. Whether you need creative prompting and development, or a robust organization system for every detail, Novelio is a complete platform to support the entire story development process.

We’re also the only platform that can take your manuscript and build your story bible for you with incredible accuracy, depth, and insight.

Obsidian and Notion are very powerful utilities, but they don’t have built-in tools to level up your character development, plotting impact, and worldbuilding believability. Novelio is designed for storytelling. With systems and prompts for everything from surface details to deep psyche and powerful arcs, your stories can be incredible.
