Use Element Library

Element Library brings together all of your chapters, scenes, notes, and time tags. Use Scene List to review chapters and scenes in manuscript story order, or switch to Note List or Time Tag List to review those entries.

Open Element Library

1. Open your story.
2. Go to the Plotting area.
3. Select the Element Library tab.

Use the workspace dropdown header to navigate between Scene List, Note List, and Time Tag List.

1. Scene List: review chapters and scenes in manuscript order. This is your master list of all scenes and will be available to you in the sidebar of any other plotting workspaces you create.
   • Create scenes with the +Add New Scene button at the bottom of the list or the Scene icon in the +Add New sidebar tray. To create chapters, use the Chapter icon in the tray.
   • Scenes can be nested into chapters or kept out of chapter structure. If chapters are used, then chapter number indicators can appear on scene bars in your other plotting workspaces.
   • Rearrange them as needed into your master story order.
2. Note List: review all Notes. This is your master list of Notes and will be available to you in the sidebar of any other plotting workspaces you create.
   • Create notes with the New Note button at the bottom of the list, or the +Add New sidebar tray.
   • Create a new color-coded note type by clicking the gray New Type icon in the +Add New sidebar tray. Once that type is created, you can create new notes of that type.
3. Time Tag List: Similar to Notes, these are mini-notes meant to be used to mark time in your story. These are especially helpful for stories with multiple timelines or viewpoints, or whenever you need to track time. Review Time Tags in your preferred order. This is your master list of all Time Tags and will be available to you in the sidebar of any other plotting workspaces you create.
   • Create Time Tags with the New Time Tag button at the bottom of the list, or the +Add New sidebar tray.
   • You can arrange them in story order or chronological order, depending on whether your story is written in chronological order and how you prefer to organize your Time Tags.

Move from Element Library to timelines

Use the + tab to open a new plot structure template or timeline workspace with the Create New Timeline menu.

Edit a scene’s full details

To edit a scene’s details, find the scene in the Scene List and select its Edit pencil icon. This will take you to that scene’s full worksheet, with editable fields, scene POV tagging, a place to tag relevant characters and mark their scene goals, and a section for further notes.

In the sidebar, you can change which template you’d prefer to use for crafting scenes. As you change a scene’s template, different fields will appear. Changing it back to a previous template will reveal any data you added previously to that template.

When you tag a character in a scene sheet, that scene will also appear as a clickable scene tag on the character’s profile.
